The story of Ronnie Mcnutt’s tragic death, The man who live-streamed his suicide

Ronnie Mcnutt threw his family and friends into a state of mourning as they weren’t ready to watch him kill himself during a live stream on Facebook. Streaming live was unusual for Ronnie as he talked about almost everything including pop culture and theology in a 40 minute Livestream session.

On August 31st, Ronnie Mcnutt, who was an army veteran picked a rifle and shot himself while his family and friends were watching from afar. Their attempt to reach out to him while making a suicide statement proved futile.

This story isn’t new to people who are very active on social media as the Iraq War veteran live-streamed his death in a very sad and distressing video on Facebook and later went viral four houses before the platform took it down. This shocking incident has however caused many people to know more about them and what happened for him to make such a painful decision.

Who is Ronnie Mcnutt?

On May 23rd, 1987, Ronnie Mcnutt made his way into the world and later became an Army Reserve veteran who lived in New Albany, Mississippi, United States of America. Throughout his life, he worked at a Toyota plant and also got indulged in the local theatre scene. He was having a podcast show as a co-host with his friend, Joshua Steen.

He was a frequent churchgoer who attended Celebration Church in Tupelo and also a member of a Comicons club. Aside from these, he wrote comic book reviews for a website. Ronnie Mcnutt left behind his brother Joey, sister Mindy, mother Elaine three nieces plus two nephews.

The good friend of Ronnie Mcnutt, Joshua Steen, opened up following his death that Ronnie was struggling with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after serving in a war in Iraq.

What happened on the day Ronnie Mcnutt shot himself?

Ronnie Mcnutt initially shared a heartbreaking final Facebook post before going live at about 7:32 pm. The image was a message in the text which read “Someone in your life needs to hear that they matter. That they are loved. That they have a future. Be the one to tell them”

In the live video, Ronnie Mcnutt was wearing while sitting in a chair behind his desk and shot himself during the live stream. As soon as the video started, Viewers noticed that he was drunk and sad as he made worrying comments about ending his life. This prompted them to reach out to his family and friends.

Joshua Steen jumped in Ronnie Mcnutt’s full live stream and tried to reach him after viewers called on him but unfortunately, Ronnie declined all his phone calls as he argued with those who tried to intervene.

While this was ongoing, police had already been alerted and were outside his door. As officers were sent to the scene they evacuated neighbors and set up a cordon and used speakers to make contact with Ronnie Mcnutt but it proved futile.

The New Albany Police Department was later accused of not doing enough to save Ronnie Mcnutt but they maintained that all they could have had was negotiate because storming the house would have resulted in a shootout but after Ronnie Mcnutt fired the shoot they stormed the building.

Why did the video spread rapidly?

The shocking content of the video should have made the social media platform take it down immediately but Ronnie Mcnutt’s video spread fast on social media hence before the original post was taken down it had already gone viral.

Calls for social media reform

After the video went viral, the outpouring of Rest In Peace quotes also came through from many people which they also backlash Facebook for taking about two hours before they took down the suicide video
